10 Best Dresses from Paris Couture Week
It’s springtime in Paris––at least on the runways. The last week of January was an explosion of color and flowers. All manner of blooms enchanted couture fans, from the daintiest appliques to Viktor & Rolf’s branches and Stephane Rolland’s voluminous rose gown. All of the shows spoke of the coming spring, and it is as clear as Valentino’s writing on the wall...or, should I say, dress. This year’s Paris Couture Week also boasted of new ways to bare skin. Plunging necks and backs are not enough, apparently. Mesh is the new silk, as it pretends to cover while making the imagination run wild.
It is also clear that the story isn’t always about volume. Dresses were made to cling to bodies, celebrating its curves. New lines were invented to flatter the figure, as seen in Versace’s sheer cutouts and Raf Simons’ graphic prints. Paris showed everything new, sleek and exciting.
Though every show was spectacular in their own rights, we’ve narrowed it down to the 10 best dresses from couture week. See our favorites in the gallery above.
